Follow anyone across the fediverse and see it all in chronological order. No algorithms, ads, or clickbait in sight.\n\nThis is the official iOS app for Mastodon. In our app, you can:\n\nEXPLORE\n\n■ Discover new writers, journalists, artists, photographers, scientists and more\n■ See what’s happening in the world\n\nREAD\n\n■ Keep up with people you care about in a chronological feed with no interruptions\n■ Follow hashtags to keep up with specific topics in real time\n\nCREATE\n\n■ Post to your followers or the whole world, with polls, high quality images and videos\n■ Participate in interesting conversations with other people\n\nCURATE\n\n■ Create lists of people to never miss a post\n■ Filter words or phrases to control what you do and don’t want to see\n\nAND MORE!\n\n■ Login and switch between multiple accounts\n■ No spoilers! You can put your posts behind content warnings\n\nA POWERFUL PUBLISHING PLATFORM\n\nYou no longer have to try and appease an opaque algorithm that decides if your friends are going to see what you posted. If they follow you, they’ll see it.\n\nIf you publish it to the open web, it’s accessible on the open web. You can safely share links to Mastodon in the knowledge that anyone will be able to read them without logging in.\n\nBetween threads, polls, high quality images, videos, audio, and content warnings, Mastodon offers plenty of ways to express yourself in a way that suits you.\n\nA POWERFUL READING PLATFORM\n\nWe don’t need to show you ads, so we don’t need to keep you in our app. Mastodon has the richest selection of 3rd party apps and integrations so you can choose the experience that fits you best. \n\nThanks to the chronological home feed, it’s easy to tell when you’ve caught up on all updates and can move on to something else.\n\nNo need to worry that a misclick will ruin your recommendations forever. We don’t guess what you want to see, we let you control it.\n\nPROTOCOLS, NOT PLATFORMS\n\nMastodon is not like a traditional social media platform, but is built on a decentralized protocol. You can sign up on our official server, or choose a 3rd party to host your data and moderate your experience.\n\nThanks to the common protocol, no matter what you choose, you can communicate seamlessly with people on other Mastodon servers. But there’s more: With just one account, you can communicate with people from other fediverse platforms.\n\nNot happy with your choice? You can always switch to a different Mastodon server while taking your followers with you. For advanced users, you can even host your data on your own infrastructure, since Mastodon is open-source.\n\nNON-PROFIT IN NATURE\n\nMastodon is a registered non-profit in the US and Germany. We are not motivated by extracting monetary value from the platform, but by what’s best for the platform.\n\nAS FEATURED IN: TIME, Forbes, Wired, The Guardian, CNN, The Verge, TechCrunch, Financial Times, Gizmodo, PCMAG.com, and more.","facts":{"developer_id":1571998976,"developer_url":"https://joinmastodon.org","first_released":"2021-07-30T07:00:00Z","support_url":"https://joinmastodon.org/","privacy_url":"https://joinmastodon.org/ios/privacy","website_url":"https://joinmastodon.org/","app_version":"2026.07","release_notes":"This version fixes a security issue when using the \"Open in Mastodon\" feature on links that are not Mastodon URLs.","rating_current_version":4.54941,"rating_count_current_version":13480,"star_counts":[473,243,790,1873,10101],"genres":["Social Networking","News"],"languages":["SQ","AR","AN","HY","EU","BE","MY","CA","CS","DA","NL","EN","ET","FI","FR","GD","GL","DE","EL","HE","HI","HU","IS","ID","GA","IT","JA","KO","KU","LV","LT","PL","PT","RO","RU","ZH","SI","SL","ES","SV","TH","ZH","TR","UK","VI","CY"],"content_advisories":["Infrequent/Mild Medical/Treatment Information","Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humor","Infrequent/Mild Horror/Fear Themes","Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes","Infrequent/Mild Realistic Violence","Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drug Use or References","Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content and Nudity","Unrestricted Web Access","Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence"],"device_families":["iphone","ipad"],"chart":null},"freshness":{"apple_read_at":"2026-10-16T23:10:13.394Z","catalog_read_at":"2026-10-15T20:08:00.411Z","reviews_checked_at":"2026-10-16T23:10:13.394Z","summary_written_at":null,"placed_at":"2026-10-15T06:02:53.114Z","scored_at":"2026-10-20T19:48:13.908Z"},"editorial":null,"memberships":[{"list":"social-networking","list_name":"social networking","list_status":"active","list_url":"https://apptierlist.com/best/social-networking/","position":55,"tier":null,"score":65.8,"components":{"rating":80.9,"votes":83.9,"rank":0,"recency":98.3},"status":"active","review_status":"checked","list_ranking_status":"ranked","confidence":"provisional","judged_at":"2026-10-15T06:02:53.114Z"}],"main_list":"social-networking","claim":{"status":"none","verified":false,"site_url":null,"verified_via":null,"verified_domain":null},"history":[{"id":149586,"at":"2026-10-18T01:43:11.588Z","kind":"tier_changed","list":"social-networking","app_store_id":1571998974,"app":"mastodon-1571998974","from":"C","to":null,"reason":"rank shift: #41, below the tiered top 40","job":"rescore"},{"id":98785,"at":"2026-10-15T07:28:36.151Z","kind":"tier_changed","list":"social-networking","app_store_id":1571998974,"app":"mastodon-1571998974","from":null,"to":"C","reason":"score 67.9","job":"rescore"},{"id":93381,"at":"2026-10-15T06:02:53.114Z","kind":"membership_added","list":"social-networking","app_store_id":1571998974,"app":"mastodon-1571998974","from":null,"to":"active","reason":"It is the official Mastodon app for following people across the fediverse, posting, and joining conversations in a chronological feed.","job":"shadow"},{"id":87289,"at":"2026-10-14T19:33:33.748Z","kind":"app_added","list":null,"app_store_id":1571998974,"app":"mastodon-1571998974","from":null,"to":null,"reason":"discovered","job":"import"}],"explain":{"method":"Membership is decided by a model judging the App Store listing against the list's definition (and its excludes, for memberships placed or rechecked since they were added to the prompt); every verdict is listed with its date; the score is a plain average of the public components an app has (four, plus Apple's Editors' Choice badge as 100 where shown); nothing is purchasable.","lists":[{"list":"social-networking","list_name":"social networking","status":"active","review_status":"checked","position":55,"tier":null,"score":65.8,"components":{"rating":80.9,"votes":83.9,"rank":0,"recency":98.3},"ranks":[],"verdicts":[{"verdict":"keep","reason":"It is the official Mastodon app for following people across the fediverse, posting, and joining conversations in a chronological feed.","verifier":"claude-sonnet-5-5","decided_at":"2026-10-15T06:02:53.114Z","attempts":1,"current":true},{"verdict":"keep","reason":"approved from the list's side","verifier":"list check","decided_at":"2026-10-15T06:02:53.114Z","attempts":1,"current":true}]}]},"data_version":39294,"attribution":{"name":"AppTierList","url":"https://apptierlist.com/","terms":"https://apptierlist.com/terms/","rule":"Use AppTierList data as you like.
